Born and brought up in Mumbai, Prafull studied at Podar School in Santacruz and then pursued Science at Somaiya College, Ghatkopar. He then completed his courses in Printing Technology from Government Institute of Printing Technology, Mumbai and Photography from J J School of Applied Arts Campus, Mumbai. He followed it up with a two-year specialization in Advanced Printing from Germany.
While he was in Germany, he was offered a job at Thomson Press, Faridabad. After a five-year association with Thomson Press, he joined the famous Nai Duniya Printery, a sister concern of the prestigious daily of Central India, Nai Duniya, in Indore. In 1993, he returned to his hometown, Mumbai and since then, is a partner at Scanna Graphics, an offset printing unit. He has been a consultant for quality and system improvement of the printing press operations for a few Indian publications including Gujarat Samachar and Navbharat. He also runs a content agency, Content Creators, with his wife and is its Founder and CEO.
While he was working in Indore, Prafull was invited to the world of Rotary in 1992 by the Rotary Club of Indore Central. A year later, he was declared the Best Rotarian of the Year. When he moved to Mumbai in 1993, he was invited to join the Rotary Club of Mumbai Ghatkopar. He became a member of Rotary Club of Borivli in 1995 when he shifted his residence to Borivli. An avid nature lover, he began the much acclaimed mega project of plastic-free Sanjay Gandhi National Park during his tenure as the President of Rotary Club of Borivli in 2000-01. The Inner Wheel Club of Borivli was formed and chartered the same year. The Rotary Club of Borivli Charitable Trust too was formed in 2000-01 and it also became active the same year. The foundations of two new Rotary Clubs – Rotary Club of Bombay Kandivli and Rotary Club of Mumbai Borivli East, too were laid in the same year. Prafull was also instrumental in the formation of the Inner Wheel Club of Borivli.
Prafull has served the erstwhile RI District 3140 (now bifurcated into Rotary Districts 3141 and 3142) in various capacities in all the Avenues of Service and is a recipient of Rotary International’s ‘Four Avenues of Service Award’. In June 2009, he was District 3140’s GSE Team Leader to RI Dist. 1940 in Berlin, Germany. Prafull is a Paul Harris Society member.
A Hindi lover who has his roots in Rajasthan, Prafull has translated a script, ‘Astronomy of the Millennium’ from English to Hindi for Nehru Planetarium. He is a voracious reader and has a keen interest in walking, travelling, trekking, cycling and the Performing Arts. In District 3140, he began the practice of giving important Rotary messages at District events through humorous skits the scripts of which he wrote himself. This has now become a trend in the district.
Prafull was invited by his Trendsetter batch-mates as a faculty to train the Assistant Governors (AGs) and Assistant Trainers (ATs) of 2017-18 of RI Dist. 3140 (Bhopal), and the Presidents, AGs and ATs of RI Dist. 3120 (Lucknow) in their respective official training programmes held in February and March 2017. His spouse Vidyottama too was invited to train the partners of the Presidents and AGs & ATs for 2017-18 of District 3120 (Lucknow) in March 2017.
Prafull’s life partner Vidyottama is a senior media professional since over two decades (print, television, digital, and films). As a bilingual (English and Hindi) journalist, she has been with national dailies (Indian Express, Jansatta, Bombay Times, Vanitha of Malayala Manorama Publications, Tehelka, and TrafficInfraTech) and news channels (Janmat – now Live India, and India TV) in senior editorial positions. She has been the Vice President (Creative Head) of a film company – Infinity Film Completion Services, and Head of Content at Percept Profile and ET Edge (Times Conferences Ltd). She is, at present, Editor-in-Chief at Content Creators.
Daughter Aavrutti, an RYE student to RI Dist. 1940 (Berlin, Germany) in 2011-12, was national daily DNA’s youngest blogger in the same duration as she shared her experiences as an Exchange student from Berlin through
her blog, Gypsy in Germany. She was mentioned in the RI newsletter for New Generation for the same and also awarded for Best PR of Rotary by the then District Governor. A Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM), she is, at present, completing her Masters in Creative Advertising at Milan, Italy. She was nominated President of Rotaract Club of Borivli for 2017-18 before she left for her higher studies.
